I was gonna say I never heard of “dapp” before. Searched it and only crypto sites came up. I don’t even think I like the phrase “decentralized app” as it is being used.
The concept in itself doesn’t sound too bad, it’s just that a multitude of the actual implementations don’t look very well meaning at all, just like NFTs. Somehow crypocurrency is able to attract both the best mathematicians and the worst scum looking to make a quick buck
You shouldn’t expect any privacy when using chrome, or any google product for that matter.
I would also say anything that isn’t FOSS. Big tech and car companies to name a few.

Chrome is not selling your browsing history! It is creating profiles based on your interests from your browsing history which advertisers can then use to better target you.

“Decentralized” means there is no central server.
Central server: This is essentially a cloud storage that retains data. Major tech companies like Google, Twitter, and Facebook all have central servers where they store user data, such as chat histories, usernames, passwords, contact lists, and online activities. Moreover, a centralized platform can be likened to a paradise for hackers, as they only need to breach one server to obtain a wealth of sensitive data. (I assume everybody knows cloud is just another computer.)

However, to me, web3 signifies more than just the crypto world; it embodies the decentralized (or democratic) concept. Big tech companies represent the web2 era since they operate in a centralized and often monopolistic manner, influencing our perceptions by controlling media content. Personally, I find this concerning, which is why I’m gradually transitioning to decentralized networks like WireMin and messaging platforms like SimpleX, while WireMin offers similar functionalities, Signal does not.

A privacy focused social media? Cuz if ‘just a chat app’, SimpleX or Session probably meets more
But I mean, wiremin doesn’t actually appear to connect you to strangers. It seems like it just sets up private chat rooms from its description. I don’t see anyway that it publicly posts in a fashion that would appear on all WireMin users apps.
Edit: it only seems to connect you to people you explicitly provide. So hence “chat app”.
