It’s literally in the term. But yeah sure, it’s easier to just smack the same label on everything. Whatever makes you happy.

They could simply
A) dislike X
B) hate/despise X
C) came to the logical conclusion, that X is bad/wrong/shouldn’t be/whatever
D) genereally mistrusting against X due to a careful nature
E) have had traumatic experience with X (e.g. Being raped/attacked by a member of a specific ethnicity) and hence totally overreacting to an otherwise harmless stimulus, even forgetting the rules of civil behaviour
Those all don’t mean there’s the medical condition of a phobia for X.
A real xenophobic has an irrational fear of anything unknown/alien. Doesn’t mean the person just hates e.g. Mexicans for no real reason. It might even like them once they get to know the better, which often just won’t happen as phobics tend to avoid the cause their phobia instead of treating it.
I just dislike the lax use of medical terms until they’re bereft of any real meaning.
So, a person who yanks “speak English!” to someone, could have many reasons to do. None are neither polite nor politically correct. While the asshole is probably just the uneducated asswipe, the phobic could be helped and probably even feels bad afterwards for being so compulsive and insulting.
Not everyone disliking something is necessarily phobic towards it. That’s just one possoble explanation.
Seems nice, but no root as far as I’ve seen, which kills it for ne
Which isn’t better than Google these days? They dropped immensly in quality.
I dunno how that would be a trustworthy gauge. We talk here and i still don’t know the content of that video 😁
Sure, to each his own, but still…it’s lemmy, not reddit. And also this is a linux-post. I wonder how the efficiency of Linux goes with the inefficiency of videos with ads in it. But that’s just me, and I’m just annoyed by no client (that i know of) having such simple feature to just ignore video-posts, especially if it’s YouTube. Or just links to reddit or even nastier paywalls. Even if i might miss a good discussion or real information in the comments i would never see.
Though, Of course, you’re not wrong with all you said.
Oh no, don’t get me wrong. Of course Youtube isn’t evil/bad per se. It totally has a reason to exist. And of course youtubers make videos. And yes, i simply don’t consume YouTube unless i have to.
But, i am not on Youtube here. I am not here to grant someone a buck for a view. I don’t want advertisement. And i certainly don’t want videos. It personally pisses me off that i so often click on an interesting post here (lemmy in general) just to end up paywalled or in a damn video. That is all. I’d love a simple feature to opt out of posts that just advertise their youtube-video. If I’d want that, I’d go to, well, Youtube 😁
Not ranting about the existence of this video (it might be awesome, what do i know), but it’s just totally misplaced imho.
Like i wouldn’t want to browse YouTube to find videos of a picture or a text. Yeah sure it’s called “social MEDIA”, which includes all media. I’d just love to select what to consume.
You’re downvoted to oblivion for being right. Well you could’ve phrased it nore civil and friendly though 😌
I miss the Internet of the beginnings. Pure, simple and efficient information. Mostly. I’d argue the downfall slowly started with geocities and the rise of “funny” animated gifs and music in websites.
And it all went bonkers with “web2.0” and sites needing 15 fat libraries and megabytes of visual pleasures to just tell the time…
Amen. So this. I always audibly sigh at this shit. The tiniest piece of information is always wrapped into tons of useless crap and blahblah which could’ve been a highly informative block of text or a table. As if the net wasn’t already full of bloat anyway.
Don’t trust every “article” on some shitty website.
Aye. SMS still exists. And for those boomers with their facebook and WhatsApp, it’s not even a new thing ☺️
Added bonus: those who do install “your” app, show a minimum in interest. You’re even worth the “effort”.
Well. I do it the other way. I would not install effing whatsapp just to reach someone. I tell then once where to find me, and, if they want to know, why this is and why i prefer it and why i wouldn’t install app X. If they don’t, then bad luck for me. Or not.
The currency-selling started way before wow too. In one mmo the money-spiral went so far the drain that people who played 8 or more accounts simultaneously were the tits. You had to buy a 2nd acc at the very least to be half-way competitive. It disgusted me so bad that i ultimately quit this otherwise beautiful game (dark age of camelot).
As to cheats. I love cheats and use them to my hearts desire. Be it to see everything on the first run (there are too many games in my backlog nowadays) or to make a fun 2nd run, or just to skip things i don’t enjoy (like carryweight in an rpg, me being a hoarder). I never cheated in online games of course. That would beat the purpose. Using denuvo anticheat on a singleplayergame just to make cheating impossible so that people buy their cheats… That’s where they can really suck my schlong and I’ll just pirate.
But it was the “beginning” with the most exposure to the average gamer. Everyone hated it, nobody wanted it, yet seemingly more than enough still bought it, which ultimately lead us here.
Yet, which game exactly started it, isn’t important for my point being. It somewhere started, and we still purchased and decided with our moneyz if such practices are fine with us. And obviously it was fine or else this thread Wouldn’t be there.
Well. We, the gamers, get what we deserve. Did we purchase shit like this before? Yes.
Did we buy Skyrim’s horse-armour and started it all? Yes.
Do we now pay for cheat-codes in a 70-moneyz single-player-game? Also Yes.
Obviously, or companies would stop to come up with such turds coz it wouldn’t sell.
I will wait for a crack even though i couldn’t await this game. But this? Nooooo. It hurts my fefes.
How dare you? It won Steam’s innovation-award! And it was surely full of innov…never mind. I’ll show myself out.
Wouldn’t say “fool”, but surely lacking reflection on that topic.
Seriously, who still cares what those “totally independent” sites say? The ratio-graph between site-size and trustworthyness is converging to zero.
Not to say the game isn’t great. It most likely is.
I only did once a long time ago, so… I dunno if you need confirmation or something more than just pluggin in.
“Giants: Citizen Kabuto”
It was a hillarious mix of everything. Super funny characters/story, great telling, fps, rts, asymetrical… All being super casual. Still on gog and still a joy.
“battlezone”
Best blend of rpg/rts/Story. So far i never saw one coming close that gameplay.
