Friendly reminder that a lot of libraries lend audio books as well.
Probably my Canon AE-1. Not sure of the exact year, but the model was made from roughly '76 to '84.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What game from your childhood is most nostalgic for you?
2·7 months agoAt the risk of sounding ancient: Lifeforce on the NES.
I would think it should be in the boot log, but I am unsure on that one.
Sounds like that shutdown the system, so the problem is just getting it to power off. You could try "halt -p”. That explicitly calls for the system to power off. If that doesn’t work, perhaps try “halt -verbose”, which will give a bunch of info on the next boot about what halt was doing, might show an error there that could you lead you in the right direction.
Did you use any arguments with shutdown? Does shutdown spin down the system, but not turn off the hardware, or does it not do anything? You can try " shutdown now -h". That should halt the system after a graceful shutdown.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If scientists could make you immortal but could only do it by transferring your consciousness into a single video game for ever, which game would you choose?
181·10 months agoCyberpunk. Lots to do, and ostensibly all the other video games in VR.
Do you have Fluid Motion or some sort of frame fill/smoothing turned on? My understanding is that the in game counter would not detect the extra frames generated by Adrenaline.
That’s the hay loft. Probably more so on older barns, but that’s where the term is from.

Do It Yourself@beehaw.org•How do I prepare shelves to fit into an adjustable bookshelf?
4·1 year agoYou probably don’t need to add holes to the shelves. There are pegs that go into the adjustable holes that are flattened on one side, and the shelf just rests on them. Should be able to get a set of universal ones from the hardware store for pretty cheap if the originals are missing.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How do I uninstall my browser along with all its data?
31·1 year agoYou could always write yourself a simple bash clean-up script that kicks off the uninstall and also deleted the profile and anything else you want gone. Not a universal solution, but if you need to do that one thing often enough it would do the trick.
mantra@lemmy.ziptoPhotography@lemmy.world•Help me understand why rolling shutter effect happens
31·2 years agoThe photosites are continuously reading the light falling on them. When you take a picture, the system takes discreet readings of those values for the length of your shutter speed. However it can only handle the information from a portion of the sensor at a time. So it reads in sequential stripes. The longer the exposure time the more of a chance that the sensor or the subject has moved before the camera reads all the stripes.

This fits well with my philosophy: I tolerate continued existence out of a morbid sense of curiosity.
