And this is why i stick with Z-Wave/Insteon/etc. I have a local hardware controller that doesn’t have to be connected to the internet to work. It can be cloud controlled remotely, but if their service shut down tomorrow, it’d still be fully functional locally or if I exposed the server endpoint myself.

What’s interesting is if I try to identify it by name or exact TMDb ID it comes up blank. I think there’s an issue hitting the API, which is why I was looking for some logging. I’m gonna try some other providers too.

That looks amazing, but damn that’s expensive.
Basically what happens is JF correctly identifies the series from the file names. I can look at all the corresponding metadata and see that it’s correct, including the TMDB id. However there’s just no cover art. I have two identical series and for one it pulls it in and the other it doesn’t.
I know it’s not TMDB (directly) as I have another media server (Think like a Dune or Zidoo) and it is also indexing the same exact files against TMDB and it will correctly add the cover art.

Honestly I’m using Windows Enterprise. Local accounts, GPOs to get rid of all the telemetry and other bullshit. Never seen an ad in the start menu or any other place. Just nice clean windows. Basically it’s what companies use so that Microsoft doesn’t piss them off.
So I’m seeing people mention TrueNAS and Unraid. Both look like they could meet my needs (Unraid a bit better) but the issue I run into there is hardware. Finding something in a small form factor that can hold hot swappable drives is few and far between, but UGREEN actually looks promising.
One of the key things I’m looking for is size. I don’t want a server or pc because they’re too bulky. The advantage of the synology is it’s only marginally larger than the two drive bays for the drives. It’s small and quiet.
Yup! That’s the setting I’m referring to. The global one resets every time on me. I have to go into the show and turn it off at the start of every episode. It’s a pain in the ass.
Yeah I turn the setting off and next time I launch the app, it’s tuned right back on. Works fine on my PC, just not my XB1.
And the CCs don’t even get the dub dialog right. Names are beyond mangled it looks like they’re trying to run it through a realtime recognition system to do auto captions. It’d be worlds better if they just uploaded the ADR script at that point.
Have this odd bug where CC is enabled at first on every episode and man, it’s bad. Luckily subs for JP dubs are somewhat decent but I feel bad for anyone who needs closed captioning.
Kindle Unlimited is the big thing that keeps my wife on her Kindle. She goes through books like candy and it’s made it seriously economical without the trouble of loading it via her computer.
Honestly that’s why I just stick with local site auth and a password manager. 1) it lets me remember things via my manager and 2) if it’s compromised, they’ll only have access to that site and not other ones I’ve used to log in with.
And yet people are bitching because Windows 10 is getting cut off after 10 years of support. Raise it to 15 and people will just bitch at the 15 year mark.
They’re salivating at the chance to reduce head count and still make money. Employees are by far the largest cost for any company. They hate paying it out when it could be for them.
Yeah that’s what my takeaway was too. He doesn’t talk about “how to get over there” it’s all about “once you’re there”.
From my understanding it is basically VoIP which rides the data connection encrypted back to the phone carrier. This has advantage of not being able to be hijacked by cell tower interceptors like StingRay. This basically means that it’s much harder for governments and other entities to spy on phone calls since it’s part of the data channel and not the “voice” channel.
Bandwidth wise, I’m not as certain but it could have impacts there if they don’t have QoS correctly configured.
