I feel like this might be a great chance to get the general reddit audience to hear about us better. Idk how many people we will need to pull this off. But if 155,000 people currently in the threadiverse is enough to take a large chuck of the /r/place map, we should do it and get people asking, whats lemmy?

Like “JOIN LEMMY!” and have the lemmy icon written next to it.

What does everyone think?

No, as others have said, the best protest would be a blank canvas.

Us going there to do that is the same as breaking up with your girlfriend then heading over to her house and making out with a new girl. “SEE, LOOK, WE’RE SO HAPPY WITHOUT YOU, SO HAPPY. GUYS YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW”. Tacky for everyone.

This is inadvisable. Reddit has already shown itself to be an untrustworthy company and Huffman to be a dishonourable person. Do you think spez will allow the final version to have his name all over it or allow competing organizations like the fediverse to take away more of his customers thus reducing his profits?

All he have to do is push a button to get have the final version of place the way they want it. Remember what he got caught doing in the past.

It’s their game and their rules, so I think it’s best to just stay out of it. What I mean is, it could so easily be manipulated by Reddit in their favour - I can just imagine admins fixing themselves extra pixels so our areas get mysteriously vandalised. Even if not, joining in is what they want us to do.

You do you. It seems like many folks don’t wish to give reddit any more of their time, others would like to see more people join the fediverse, some may not want to invite more Reddit users due to various reasons (increasing trolls, having people shit on lemmy because it is not yet polished and they can’t figure it out, increasing strain on servers, or whatever their reason is). While we are still freshly in the post-migration phase since the implemented changes, we may still pick up a few new users, but I don’t believe we will have such a surge again until there’s another big change perhaps at the point where casual participants get fed up with the billionty ads, shitty app, and trolls who stay to earn their karma.

I just took this, quite a bit of it actually lol. Also “Hurensohn” apparently means “Son of a bitch” in German according to google.

Unfortunately I’m sure spez will be happy with how things are going so far. Even the protesters are flocking to Reddit to have fun - such irony right now that right in the middle there’s a link to a subreddit where people can complain about 3rd party apps… on Reddit! Apart from that most of it is people drawing flags and stuff like usual.

Apart from the fact we shouldn’t bring them any traction, I’m not sure if that’s the best way to advertise Lemmy. I mean, I think a big percentage of redditors have already heard of the threadiverse and they still choose to stay on Reddit for whatever reason. So a plain “join Lemmy” sign would probably seem like another annoying ad to them.

I think the best way to advertise the threadiverse is by sharing the content that’s being created here and actually explaining/showing why it’s a great platform to use. The more we do that and the more Reddit keeps pissing people off with their dumb updates and everything, the more people will end up checking the threadiverse out and hopefully joining it.
