I’ll share mine first.

I had a psych patient one night pile shitty toilet paper next to his toilet overnight. Normally my psych nurse brain would consider this a symptom of disorganized psychosis, EXCEPT!

I remembered an aita post about a conflict between a western OP and his middle eastern roomate trying to figure out why their roommate put their shitty toilet paper in the trash. Turns out many middle eastern toilets can’t handle toilet paper.

Oh and inpatient psychiatry doesn’t provide freestanding hard plastic trashcans (turns out they make great clubs). We gave him one of our freestanding paper bag trashcans and problem solved.

TL;DR; Reddit expanded my cultural knowledge enough to differentiate disorganized psychotic behaviors from a genuine cultural difference. Thanks reddit!

Anyone have any similar examples of positive exchanges of knowledge or culture using reddit?

TBH loads of stuff about headphones and audio equipment, gaming and computers, etc.

Did you not get sucked into the mechanical keyboards hole? Good for you! I subscribed to r/mk for a long time, but luckily jumped ship before I started getting into custom keyboards. I do have a mech keyboard though but only a basic WASD V2 with cherry clears. Nothing fancy.

I do miss having the money to buy new headphones and amps. I love music and movies, so the headphone hobby actually made a lot of sense to me, and I don’t see any of the equipment I’ve bought as a waste of money. I love my expensive headphones and smile every time I use them 🙂

I did get sucked in. I bought a few Filcos (I live in Japan so JIS layout is a must) and recently got the new Keychron K8 Pro JIS for home. It’s MUCH nicer all around than the Filcos.

As for headphones, I have a few nice sets, but state of Chinese IEMs these days is SO GOOD that $20-30 can get you some REALLY good sound. I still get a new pair every now and then just to sample new flavours, but I’m finished spending big money on amps and stuff.

I bought a pair of ZMF Eikons and the JDS Element v2. That has been enough for me mostly, but I do get an itch sometimes to buy more high end cans. I was at CanJam a couple of years ago and really enjoyed listening to the difference between all these different headphones, and I would love to have a couple more in the same class as the ZMFs, to have something to switch between. That said, these days I use my senheiser 650s a lot too, while my Beyerdynamic DT770 pros are mostly unused after I got the ZMFs.
