Free markets can exist without corporate overlords, we collectively need to stop believing the Capitalism vs Communism false-dichotomy. Hybrid systems are the future, any other pure system devolves into slavery.
I’ve been dreaming of a future where Uber, DoorDash, etc are devoid of any corporate organization. Developers, drivers and support staff are the only human workers, the rest is organized by a complex, but open source, program.
No investors, no shareholders, every cent goes to the workers. Wages are higher in prices are lower because we aren’t paying five VPs a million dollars a year or sending all our profits to the shareholders.
I think advances in computing and AI could actually make this possible. If only greed didn’t run the world it might be doable

When I visited family I was shocked how much ads people watch, even on services they pay for
Since it’s android you can make it work how you want it to.
Install a different launcher, like Projectivy and you can make your homescreen exactly what you want, no cluttered mess of ads

My dirt-cheap $20 walmart Android TV box now looks nothing like it did when I first booted it. Completely customized to how I want it to work. I even have it set up so my Disney button makes my livingroom lights dim for movies.

being able to select from my subscriptions via SmartTube, or my media categories in Jellyfin, or whatever I want!
The original homescreen was cluttered with essentially advertisements, this is way cleaner
the sponsor-block feature is so dang nice if you watch a lot of podcasts. Sometimes it’s like 30 min of ad-reads total

casting from the app is not perfect, but using the Android TV app is flawless
Most already had Android TV built into their TVs, but I gifted a couple of them $20 Walmart Android TVs. Even changed what the Paramount and Disney buttons open up for them. They all got their own logins so our ‘recently watched’ and ‘continue watching’ is separate

I gave logins to my whole family over the holidays and now they can watch anything they want. They just text me the name of the movie and it’s up there in 2 minutes.
Streaming is becoming just as bad as cable was. I’m done playing their games.

you are still going on implying that COVID is the same as the flu or a cold. The flu has never altered my heartbeat rhythms for years after.
You are still ascribing to the false dichotomy I stated in my comment when you say “not everyone can lock down” absolutely, except tons of people I personally know were still going out on vacations, some knowing they had COVID before flying to their destination.
Just because a full lockdown wouldn’t have 100% wiped out COVID doesn’t mean we should have given up on stopping the spread. It’s not one or the other.
I feel like you are trying to make excuses for endangering the lives of other people so you can not be bored. My Grandfather is buried under 6ft of dirt because of this mentality in Texas. He died needlessly. He was an active man who was writing a novel and was constantly physically active. He had at least 10 years left
A lot of us are not going to forget the actions of our fellow man during the peak of COVID, especially those who lost loved ones needlessly
I feel like you haven’t thought this through. My cousin is young so he has very low risk of having serious side effects from his COVID. The thing is we had elderly grandparents at Christmas as well, one of which with stage 4 cancer.
There is a point to testing for COVID. If we don’t test for it we have no idea how much it is spreading.
I used to get the flu once every 10 years, roughly. I’ve been getting COVID nearly every single winter.
There are relatively young people who are completely bedridden from long COVID. I’ve never heard of someone having years of their lives taken from them because of the flu.
Ever since I first got COVID I have had a irregular heartbeats and periods of extremely low energy
I find it funny you’re creating a false dichotomy of either locking people in their homes for eternity or being free. We all had a chance to stop this in its tracks, nearly everyone around me was completely unable to sacrifice one summer of vacations. I know people who literally went on vacation knowing they had COVID, breaking state laws in the process.
If you didn’t lose anybody to COVID that’s great for you, but a lot of us did.

There is billions of dollars in preventing this. Amazon has an entire fleet of people hired for the sole purpose of stopping unionization, which is illegal but they get away with it because power.
This is what happens when money and power write our laws. First step is to get money out of politics. No more millionaires representing people making an avg of 35k a year.
