I think the article only mentions the prices in the Google store, which are way more expensive than other shops. The Pixel 8 128GB is currently available at 550€.

So the Pixel 8a at 570€ would be the more expensive model.

The motivation from the previous nationalist PiS government in Poland was mainly anything they could to do against Russia or against Germany.

So by supporting Ukraine with military equipment, they were acting against Russia. But at the same time slowed down German support for Ukraine, by blocking maintenance and factories for Ukrainian equipment in Poland. Leading to long transports across to other countries e.g. Latvia for maintenance.

Now, with the grain, this has no Russian involvement and their own farmers are unhappy. So there is no way to go against Russia or against Germany. Also there is a new government in Poland, so I guess we have to see how that develops now.

It’s just a setting like so many other things. You can put in individual IPs you trust or IP ranges.

It seems Plex has figured out lots of Plex ‘server admins’ are just normal Windows users and click OK on everything w/o reading any change logs or checking any settings. So it’s easier and saver to enable a lot of things right away. Admins can just go into settings and adjust it.

What is the thought process behind these attacks?

We all know from Operation Atalanta, the anti-piracy naval operation around Somalia by EU and UN, that interrupting trade routes is a speed run to get a strong military response. Around Yemen, even US naval forces got involved. But why would the Houthi rebels want that? Is there any gain for them from getting such an escalation? From my armchair point of view, this doesn’t look smart.

We had this submission yesterday already and the title is very misleading. No one has to support Israel, but one state in Germany demands to recognize Israel’s right to exist.

Especially living in a city, this looks interesting to me. ‘Fast’ charging I’ve seen was in the range 30-60 min but then it’s like the phone, from about 20% up to 80%. So living in a city, I’d have to wait for half an hour for half the battery.

With a swap-station, it could be nearly as fast as a fossil fuel stop. About 2 minutes for a 0% to 100% stop.

This also allows for smaller batteries, for smaller cars, for lighter cars. You don’t need to carry a lot of overall range if you can swap/refill to 100% in 2 minutes.

But that is also a lesson we all learned in life at some point. The moment you share information like that or even ask for permission, you share the responsibility. That other person might not like being (partially) responsible and therefore simply say no.

I once had a leg injury, felt good about doing a tour on the bicycle, as short distances were no problem. So I asked my doctor back then if it was OK. That moment, I shared the responsibility for my health. With my doctor being involved and a very small risk for further injury being present, he of course had no choice but to say no. No bicycle riding at all. In hindsight, not asking would have been the better option, as any risks were super small and riding worked fine. That was quite a mess with 2 red flags.

Due to lots of rookies getting a try in FP1, lots of drivers only now got a chance on track. And then with the 2 red flags, they only had about the last 10 minutes or so to practise. I guess we’ll see lots of track use tomorrow in FP3.

It was really good and fun to watch for multiple reasons:

• Tyres/grip: It’s hard to get them to temperature and keep them there due to the long straights. Braking before corners is required. When braking hard into a corner due to a fight for position, we saw lock-ups, going wide, and then the overtake. So pressure from behind got rewarded with small errors and the position. Drivers had a hard time with the throttle and grip as well. Suddenly we had a fight for position through two corners and with inside - outside line, also overtakes through corners with elbows out fighting for the position. F1 racing suffers from too much grip for everyone - Las Vegas track design solves this.

• Body kit/speed<>grip: Due to high track speed, e.g. Ferrari was running the smaller rear wing they also use during the Monza race. It grants a few more km/h on the straights but costs downforce in the corners. Depending on team decisions, they had an easier time to overtake on the straight, even without DRS, but fell victim to others in brave corner-overtakes. Which is again a combination of tyre temperature and downforce in the car setup or even the car’s overall design.

• Track limits: It’s in a city, there are walls. Nobody even tried to cheat, as mistakes are punished immediately by the wall. Suddenly it’s no problem to stay on the race track. Drivers were even using the corner safety zones and doing a loop there, just to stay on the track, which is the lighter immediate punishment.

FIA is quick on fines against teams and drivers if rules/contracts are broken. Is there any possibility of fines against the Las Vegas track management or so?

For everyone only reading headlines: Those are not Russians trying to leave.

A total of 91 undocumented migrants have tried to enter Finland on its eastern border since August. These are third-country nationals who used Russia as a transit country and applied for asylum in Finland.

91 at official border crossings in 3 months is nothing, but they need to keep an eye on the situation. So far, Russia is no longer stopping them from crossing towards Finland without documents. On the border between Belarus and Poland they area already a step further and migrants are being used as desperate tools to breach the border and fences towards Poland.

The article is quite harmless compared to the silly title.

But the main argument is that Android has too many settings and options where users don’t even know what they are good for. And with further development it’s getting more features and more options.

That seems to be a very minor and rather luxury problem to have more and more features and options.

On the PC, there are lots of programs that already use a short list of options available and then a checkbox with ‘I’m an expert’ or ‘Advanced settings’ to show them all. More settings means more freedom for the user to chose from. Hiding them would be a simple task. But just because they exist and are shown, this doesn’t mean that anyone has to click on anything without even knowing what it does. So it’s not really a problem besides reading 3 more words in the list of settings but not doing anything with it.

For options I don’t know, I just use a web search in case I’m interested. Or I just ignore them as long as I don’t have a problem related to the topic.

In the 1st step, maybe a year ago or so, they updated the Kasa app (v 3?) to only function with account and while being logged in at TP-Link servers to use your devices. And in now the 2nd step, they integrate Kasa into Tapo, which was always account-bound. The 3rd step is then probably the discontinuation of the Kasa app.

Kasa was their more premium product line, that was usable without internet connection and without manufacturer account - which is why I paid more to get those instead of the cheap Tapo products. But now my ‘smart’ power outlets are in a box in the basement collecting dust and I cannot recommend anyone to spend money on TP-Link smart products, as they remove features after sale.
