You can set the EAC flag in lutris and have it run on proton just fine. That is how all of the star citizen players do it. Its the new ones that need BIOS level stuff that I dont think will ever jive with linux unless they build a lib and make it for them.
I always have my sdcards just be the grub disk and all the root and other partitions are on a USB drive that is on it (I moved mostly to clones that have eMMC but this is what my older pis use).
It might be a USB interface. But you would have to figure out the pinout as I would assume they would make it not default, hell they might have just exposed the JTAG there and not fucked with a USB chip. But again you would need something that can figure that out (bus pirate or the like, but that is just more $$ then just getting a new one, or a different fan controller that works for you).
