Looks like a good start, altho understand that you personally might need to do the lion’s share of the posting for a good while. Ask me how I know…
Dunno about ‘best,’ but:
Humanity’s <10,000 years
Not to nitpick over much, but humans are ~2M years old or more, with H. sapiens being about 300K years old.
The industrial age, however, is not even 300yrs old, so there’s your flash in the pan extinction spiral, so to speak.
Could that be genus Schefflera, like umbrella plants and such?
Thank you so much!
I’m way over my head on all that, but have bookmarked your comment and created a reminder for myself. The new system is indeed AMD, btw.
Bien sûr!
However, and TBC-- I was referring to the actual hardware when I said “system.”
Indeed, I greatly look forward to upgrading this shady OS to some manner of Linux, especially once things settle down here. (any ‘flavor’ you particularly recommend?)

Upgrading to a Win11 machine to beat the mid-October deadline was my deal. Just about every associated hardware item needed to be replaced, and there were a bunch of small issues with the various new stuff, including me completely forgetting that a network switch is NOT a router, even though they look similar. Building a rolling, swiveling platform arm for a new monitor I needed to sit next to my bed/couch was one of the last major hurdles. Bonus pts for the new machine being hilariously tiny, to the tune of ~"5x"2x"5, but it got great reviews, and I’m loving it so far.
So yeah, moving up to a faster, more capable system is always a treat in the end, but getting everything migrated properly and deciding what software to reinstall and what to upgrade can be a process that takes weeks, or more. Note: the “VirusTotal” site has been a big help in feeling much more secure about my new install choices.
Couldnt remember debit pin and its annoyed me for a long time
A few years back, I had that problem not with the PIN, but with my online PW. I’d somehow forgotten it, and wound up calling customer support for help, getting a live person to talk to. They asked me a couple personal questions, I answered, and they solved the issue within minutes. I imagine they would have done something similar with PINs.
These days, with CS being increasingly automated and/or farmed out to other countries, I’m not sure if that would work so easily, anymore.
“Pincushion moss” (Leucobryum glaucum) seems like a half-decent match, so far:
Kinda looks like… a huge sphere of cedar leaves? D:
So, any idea what it is, actually?
Yeah, I think you put your finger on a bunch of significant issues, right there. *phew*
Anyway, that’s a lot to unpack for me, but one of the familiar ones is the fact that loads of Reddit-type users are swiftly put off by how extra-complicated it is to have a ‘familiar Reddit experience,’ here on the Fediverse. (I’m no longer technically part of the Lemmysphere, haha)
Spez melting down and accidentally giving us great PR for awhile was maybe… not good enough in itself, eh?
In which case-- what should we do?
Do you have any idea what we should do?
I’ve put 2+yrs in to this project, largely because… we just can’t be pushed around by other hypocritical, social media services.
I get that they’ve been dipping recently, but holy crow-- could it really be true that there are well over 9M posts by day?! oO (and ~14M comments per day?) No way am I seeing a tiny fraction of that in my ALL feed, altho I understand that’s completely dependent on users at my instance being subscribed to communities around the FV.
One other interesting stat is that the running Lemmy instances have steadily been going down, which is naturally going to delete lots of user accts and communities, likely explaining part of the situation, here. So what if the users who choose to stay, decide to sign up via a different service, thereby ‘picking up the slack?’ (Mbin, PF, etc)
Indeed, on the whole the FV still seems to be growing:

Wow, that’s really impressive!
Indeed, one of my long-time peeves is in fact the standard bodies being uni-size. Really messes with the ability to create accurate-ish dioramas, sometimes.
Meanwhile, I must still have The Book of Five Rings, somewhere. Could barely make head nor tail out of it when I was a late teenager, but maybe now, oodles of years later… 😅
Nice!
How long on average might it take to build something like this?
Doohickey Corporation - home of the gizmos, thingamabobs, and whatchamacallits
Very good. Added.
Now let’s see you go to work! :D
No, I mean…
Foof
I’m European-based, for better or ze wurst.
Like-- what do we HAVE across these matters, eh?
Ah, excellent.
Well, considering that I already have a *kill it with fire* mentality towards anime… XD
But I’d miss Miyazaki, though. That would indeed be a bitter loss.
