Pretty interesting. Unfortunately, pricing for phones has reached ridiculous levels. Their non pro version looks better in terms of price-value, but still not great.

Unfortunately, it will end up in companies double-dipping. Once consumers accept adds, you will see more of them, and for sure the money they get from ads is not fully reflected in the price reduction.

I switched to Fastmail a few months ago and love it.

My tip is: Start simple.

1. If you have any other Domains forwarded to Gmail forward them to Fastmail instead.
2. Forward Gmail to Fastmail (i.e. add as an account including importing old mails). This won’t get you off Google yet, but at least a backup and you can practically stop using Gmail.
3. For any new registration, use Fastmail (or any of its random emails etc.)
4. Slowly transition your old accounts.

Abuse is certainly the wrong term, putting the blame on the user. Still, I think a ‘fair use’ is no longer given if you upload 20 terabytes or so. As usual, a minority overuses free services until they have to shut down or restrict usage.

Very cool. Great reviews as well from what I’ve seen. Definitely on my top contender list. Currently, after flashing a custom ROM, I’m happy with my OnePlus 6T - and upgrading without a clear need certainly goes against Fairphone’s values.

One important thing to take note of is: “Once your personal database has seen more than 200 spam and 200 non-spam emails, we automatically start using it to filter your incoming mail.” This means, before you have received 200 spam emails (or marked them as such), the filter is going to perform significantly worse.

Personally, initially it was pretty bad compared to Gmail. However, it significantly improved over time. One thing that helps are masked emails (fantastic) - an email you can create, or is even created automatically for you, and then enter at dubious websites. If you get spam, you can simply block the whole email or fine tune it.

Paid Fastmail User here since around half a year. Did extensive research on what provider to use and trialed fastmail for four weeks before buying. I went for a 3 year period. Fastmail has a fantastic set of features.

There are providers that are focused more on privacy (e.g. PGP. encryption, not being based in Australia) but that was not my top priority.

And their main service is a search engine, which seems really interesting so far (you get 100 searches free). Love the customization options! What’s your experience with the result quality? Not a huge fan of having to 0ay by search once beyond a threshold, but if the service is good…Google got super annoying with all the ads. But there’s still companies like Duckduckgo that offer great search as well.

I agree. While $20 could still be seen as reasonable - even though making it one of the more expensive apps, thigh I’m willing to go for it if Sync continues development -, the asking price of $100 for the lifetime ultra is insane. I’m not aware of any other app that is this expensive. Of course, you could argue there’s subscription apps out there that don’t even have a lifetime model - e.g. Adobe, Microsoft Office -, But these provide considerably more value as well and are huge corporations.

My feeling is - and I don’t have facts to prove it - that the developers of the large reddit apps (esp. Apollo) simply became used to the money making machine and want to squeeze as much as possible out of it.

While in the end it is entirely up to them, as there’s open source and free alternatives out there, I’m not too fond of this behavior.

Is this relevant? If you’re using these blockers, aren’t you also not affected by the data collection? Or are the settings related to in-app data collection that is not affected by blockers?

I went through exactly the same apps. Currently with Smart Launcher. Niagara widget implementation was not ideal.

No. Haven’t touched it since they killed 3rd-party apps and don’t intend to (exception are Google search results, though I use Teddit as a frontend there.
