I have a scar on the back of my left wrist from when my wife and I were in highschool and had just started dating. We were at her house while her mom was gone, and I brought over a hookah because we thought it was really cool back then.

Burnt me a bit and left a sort of small rough patch there when it healed but its been a funny story for us whenever it comes up. I usually tell the story like she’s an assassin trying to kill me with a hookah :)

I’m not a fan of analogies. They can be very condescending and convoluted and I find I dont learn much from them. I dont think there are any shortcuts to learning in that way really.

I find most the times the issue I have with someone teaching me something is that they are treating it as a one sided communication. If the person teaching won’t learn about the student, they end up assuming a lot of things and that is what breaks understanding.

Analogies are nice when the purpose isn’t to really learn but to socialize, though. Its more a way for people to acknowledge each other and show respect for the things we are interested in. Its a mutual thing in that way.

Well, they still drag around the name Blizzard despite buying it and beating it into a pulp. That still makes me salty everytime I see an article with Activision-Blizzard. Anyone who thinks they can buy reputation is a sociopath.

Literally everyone who’s not a republican is constantly jumping at the bit to “call out republicans”, because its the main way they feed their ego. Republicans are bad, ive pointed it out loudly, so now I’m a good person.

Seriously, the amount of mods here power tripping “for the greater good of the world” is ridiculous. Good for their ego, bad for everyone else. But again like someone else said, you can just move somewhere else and avoid shitty moderators easily.

Yes, while its generally common on this platform, we are early adopters for tech so we understand it first. The general public gets exposure much slower, especially when there is efforts to subvert it for profit.

Attention and time are limited, those that focus on tech know things first. Its the same as a chef knowing about food more than the average person.

I’d caveat that if you didnt know the new choice would result in the same thing as the first choice, you still gained new knowledge by trying it out. We also can’t know all the answers all the time.

The problem really is when people assume there’s only two choices. If you dont like the choices, be creative and come up with something else.
