Dad kept the scifi magazines with Azimovs original short stories. Azimov was a very prolific writer. Dad also had many Tales from Gore. The book shelves literally slumped from the weight. I didn’t fully appreciate the monumental amount of concentrated history I was engulfed in…in my own house. An entire wall of books, magazines, journals(medical, philosophical, anthropological, linguistic, almanacs, etc etc.)
Grew up… realized some of the things I missed out on. Didn’t sleep on The Well World Series by Chalker though…lol
Dune was my go to scifi…now it’s popular and I feel like a hipster.
My dad got me into hard scifi, d&d, Tolkien…if I feel like a hipster, can’t imagine what he feels like.

18·1 year agoThey literally scan your ID when you buy green in my state. They already know who you are and where you live. The cameras are to keep people honest (intimidated).

12·2 years agoFood…I like cuisine. Requires eating out. I find a place, don’t care about the cost. Try something I’ve never had. It can get expensive.
The Allegory of the Cave suites nicely with religious beliefs.

Being incorrect about things on a consistent and constant basis can be disheartening if you’re insecure. They are wrong about so many things all the time that it’s a nice change of pace to be right. Even if that means accepting “Noble Lies”.
