TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't protestors who oppose Trump/ICE open carry their guns to prevent what's currently occuring in the US ie kidnapping, assaults etc?15·13 days agoIt’s the most powerful tool in our arsenal. And it’s just sitting right at our feet. But we just won’t pick it up. I don’t get it.
General strike now.
Germany, Israel, Brazil, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Philippines…need we go on?

TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Stop Talking to Technology Executives Like They Have Anything to SayEnglish4·29 days agoBut this kind of sounds exactly like the rationale these tech bros use to claim they know more than everyone and “these plebs just don’t understand”
TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•What would stop you from switching to a flip phone (or dumbphone) in 2025?English3·1 month agoMainly my music. I’ve long thought about a dumb phone to avoid gps tracking everywhere as well as the spyware built in and the needless looking at it all the time. But music and podcasts need to come with me wherever I go. So I’d be carrying something akin to a smart phone around anyway. Doesn’t really side step the problem effectively.
Who are you Lorelei? And who’s your daughter? Lorelei?
Well I dunno your tastes, but some newer music that isn’t shit (I’m an album listener myself, so I judge by the whole album):
Black MIDI - Hellfire
Adult Jazz - Gist Is
Billy Woods - all three of his newest (one is under “Armand Hammer”, called “we buy diabetic test strips”, the other is “maps,” probably the most widely accessible, and the newest is Golliwog)
Shellac - To All Trains
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Boltcutters
KNOWER - KNOWER Forever
Those few albums span some genres and should cover a lot of tastes. I can add some more if you’re interested, those were just off the top of my head
There is so much music today. To say new music sucks is wild
TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL american public support for requiring vaccines against infectious diseases dropped from 81% in 1991 to 51% last yearEnglish10·1 month agoThe fact that you changed “spit on” to “spit up on” was perfect. These are emotional toddlers flailing their arms and kicking their feet and accidentally spitting up on all of us and everything sane. Kudos

TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?5·2 months agoWhere are you located? I thought hot air balloons are really rare these days, like less than 200 in the world
Or am I thinking of blimps?
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
At least tidal pays the artists more
TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel sad for people born today?11·2 months agoYeah the problem is with all the deregulation on generational wealth and workarounds for rich people to stockpile and keep their money, the offspring of the ruling class will be the same kind of assholes. Look at Sam Altman, he’s not old. Look at mark whateverthefuck. He’s not old. Now, those people didn’t exactly inherent their money, but you can’t tell me these guys won’t be around for the next 40 years fucking shit up. And their kids? And the kids of all the Murdochs, the bush kids, the Koch offspring…there are a lot of shitty families able to reproduce and spread their sickness. This isn’t going to wind down and give us a fresh start. These rich people will be protected by an increasingly violent state and they will all burn it down before they let it change. They’re not weakening over time. They’re amassing even more wealth and the regulations and ideas around capitalism are only getting more virulent and violent. We aren’t about to ride off into the sunset on the backs of a new generation. They are going to be focusing on surviving, more than we ever were.

TheMinister@sh.itjust.worksto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•the myth of the good tech giant16·2 months agoWell, to be fair, it’s not utilizing Microsoft as a mascot, but the era of buying and owning and keeping, as opposed to the current era of renting forever.
Back then, you bought a computer and it came with the programs you needed and they were yours until you got rid of the computer. Then they were the property of whomever got the computer next.
That’s what people are calling for. Which is depressing in and of itself because it’s so little to ask for. They’re the hand that’s starving and robbing us. We shouldn’t be asking for them to stop robbing us, we should be taking the hand and using it to distribute to all who need.
I’m saying it’s literally a free VPN. But they’re q company. If they’re offering you free shit, you’re the product.
How the fuck else do you think a for profit company is offering free tech?

Same here. I was honestly worried when I left Reddit. Which worried me even more. Once I moved to lemmy, I still use it, obviously, but I often go a few days between opening it. I’ve found I take my phone out less when I’m sitting, my overall screen time went down to like an hour and change a day, and I don’t miss it.
