Football Manager 2016 was the first version I tried. I put 1,500+ hours into it and only stopped because I decided to upgrade to Football Manager 2018. I’m on 2024 now at ~400 hours.

Do I get to keep all my current knowledge if I go back and change things? If so, I’d go back to May 5th, 2008. That was the day I decided to stop my through-hike of the Appalachian Trail because I thought I needed to go back home and enroll in college courses for the fall.
In hindsight, college was a huge waste of time that left me depressed and in debt. Thankfully an old Army buddy turned me on to a good job that got my life back on track, but it was a rough few years.
If I had stayed and finished the hike, I could have started that job years earlier, banked a hefty salary, and be that much closer to an earlier retirement now.
I was going to counter with, “what about Real Time w/ Bill Maher,” but I’ve never actually seen that show so you’re still correct.
Too goddamn early in the day for them to get my hopes up like that. Probably just meant Trump either forgot or lied about when his birthday is.
Trusting the home inspector that said the roof wouldn’t need to be replaced for at least another couple years.
Not trying to dox myself, but I also live in Missouri and have a sailboat on Carlyle Lake in IL (about an hour from St. Louis). If you’re anywhere in the area, our sailing club is doing our annual Try Sailing Day on June 22nd. Free rides on a variety of different small sailboats and catamarans in exchange for a gentle sales pitch to sign up as an associate member, take some lessons, and be able to rent out any of the club’s fleet boats or volunteer to crew for someone on the Sunday buoy racing circuit.
Do you live in an area where you can go sailing?
Exciting news, I guess, but what does this really mean? Not having to download a separate face/logos pack each year?
I was looking for a new job recently and found a listing for Part-time Manhole Cover Inspector. Was tempted to apply, but I was not qualified.
My younger brother had a summer job in high school as a worm farmer.
Sit in a cubicle for 8 hours a day.
I will go on Football Manager binges, overhauling my favorite squads and seeing them to long-term success. Then I watch actual football matches and think, “Why isn’t Dick Johnson starting at left back?” and have to remind myself that Dick Johnson doesn’t really exist.
I enlisted in the Army on Sept 5th, 2001…that was an eventful week.
But he was excellent at being completely full of shit.
Don’t really know, I’ve never talked to any of them.
Primarily listen on Spotify. I try to expand my horizons using their discovery playlists or artist/track radio for songs I already like, but they’ve got me heavily pigeonholed into late 90’s college rock and early/mid 00’s pop-punk…which is harsh but fair.
I occasionally check out place like Bandcamp or Tapefear for some rut busters. Most recently, Bandcamp turned me on to Irish hip hop artist Denise Chaila, which was a welcome surprise.
Ryan’s Hope - Apocalypse in Increments. It’s from 2006 but I didn’t discover it until around 2012, by which point they’d already rebranded as The Reaganomics and adopted a more pop-punk sound that didn’t resonate with me.
Loved Cryptonomicon. Have you read his Baroque Cycle? It deals with some similar themes and ancestors of the same families around the turning of the 18th century.
X-COM with the Long War mod.
