I mean if he’s genuinely interested in learning Unity and just using AI to help with learning that’s good, but yeah if he’s just making the AI do all the work and relying on it then yeah probably not gonna go good.

I mean it’s not just file format problems as well. It’s also the fact that generally you’ll need a professional license for whatever software you’re using since you’re not using it for personal use and it’s probably cheaper and easier to buy a ton of licenses from one company then splitting it between different companies based on what people want. There’s also the fact that especially for bigger companies they’ll have custom tools and templates already made that work in that software. Some of that is file format for things like templates but any custom scripts or tools would probably have to be rewritten to support other types of creative tools. Plus at the end of the day it’s just easier if all of your employees are using the same tools so they can collaborate easier and ask for help on things easier.
I wouldn’t be surprised if at this point with the prices they charge, most of Adobe’s users are either working somewhere that has it, or are students who want to work professionally with it, or are people in between jobs who need to keep up skills in it for when they can go back to work. Most anyone I talk to who isn’t doing things professionally and doesn’t plan to go professional will use something like Gimp instead of Photoshop if cost is an issue.
Outside of this though there’s also just the fact that it being the industry standard does tend to cause non-professionals to use it too. Whether it be because they view it as better then the alternatives, or they want to get experience in case they ever want to use it professionally, or they just haven’t heard of anything else and the tutorials they were able to find for what they wanted to do used Adobe products.
Either way though I bet that the majority of the money Adobe makes is from companies buying tons of pro licenses rather than from individual people using it.
I mean it’s not just not wanting to learn a new UI. It’s that a company uses Adobe as it’s standard so if you don’t have experience with it they won’t hire you. And if you try to come in using a different tool they’re just gonna end up forcing you to use Adobe.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stack Overflow seeks rebrand as traffic continues to plummet – which is bad news for developersEnglish
7·5 months agoI mean there’s always gonna be new libraries or frameworks or whatever that will have their own questions to be asked. I think the problem is at a certain point you’ve reached the maximum audience you can appeal to. Which I feel StackOverflow very much has but of course corporations have to keep making greater and greater profits so once you maximize audience you have to find other methods for profit. Which is what leads to rebrand stuff like this.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Paris pollution after they added bike lanes and restricted carsEnglish
9·6 months agoThe crazy thing as well is that especially after COVID people will use the isolation of cars as a positive. You have people who don’t like transit cause they would have to be near other people. Which just shows how crazy isolated and disconnected from our communities we are in the US atleast.

4·6 months agoBut what reason would they have to go after you on foreign soil? Unless you’re like actively causing problems for China they’re not gonna spend the effort to go after you for saying “China bad” on one of their phones. That only matters if you’re in China at which point it’s silencing internal discontent. The much bigger likelihood is the American government seeing you, through data Google gathers, organize against US support of Israel or any other position they start abducting people for and grabbing you off the street for it.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Oxford Professor: Cycling is 10 times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero citiesEnglish
1·7 months agoYeah I think they have something similar where I live but I think you have to be an older person or have a disability to be able to use it. Which I think is great for those groups as they are the groups that would have more trouble with biking. But I feel like for a lot of other people if you’re not in super rural areas biking is probably a better solution both for the environment and for your own health.

3·7 months agoBut bikes solve the last mile problem that people tend to have with busses and trains. Plus they’re useful for shorter trips that wouldn’t really make sense for a bus or train. So giving better infrastructure to encourage that would definitely help even in a situation where you’re taking other forms of transit. As well as with how suburban America is it allows people to get out of the suburbs at a fairly good speed to get to public transit hubs or to stores.

5·7 months agoThat’s why you need it in combination with public transit. Even if it’s 90-100 degrees I can go for a bike ride for at least 10 minutes as long as I can keep moving and keep the air blowing on me. And I’m not even really in good shape. So as long as you can bike to a bus or train stop in a fairly short time, then hop on that where there’s air conditioning, then ride for a while, and eventually take another short bike ride to your work, then it should be fine. Of course during heat waves having a car as back up is definitely good or just to use during the hotter months also works and would go a long way to reducing green house gas emissions from either driving an ICE car or from the energy you use for your electric car.

I mean spaghetti code is a part of learning a new tool, my first Unity projects I did back in highschool have some really bad spaghetti code. I’ve since learned from then and found better ways to organize things to avoid that. But yeah if you’re just letting AI write your spaghetti you’re not gonna understand why it’s bad and that prevents learning what you can do better next time.
