  • but who would have thought something that sounds as simple as wanting to RDP across 4 monitors would be so damn difficult.

The ubuntu unstability surprised me (not that I would recommend it anyways), but this didn’t. Isn’t RDP a proprietary protocol of Microsoft? Probably not too many use it in the Linux world

  • That’s very weird as with docker on windows you technically run your containers in a linux vm, and besides that, in my experience windows is not nearly stable enough to be useful for running services.
All while I have been deploying selfhosted services for myself without problems on Linux for years. My only problem has been the constantly overloaded system, but that’s no surprise when you run heavy services on the 10+ year old portable hard drive system disk. Windows would only perform worse in that environment.

  • Besides a TOR node, you can also run an I2P “router” (which is a software package).

This is not an outproxy/exit node, so unless your country prohibits in law participating in routing network traffic (afaik not really a thing), this can’t get you into trouble.

I2P is a hidden network like Tor, but compared to that (while it is usable for browsing websites while hiding your IP from it) it’s a better choice for in-network services. Unlike with Tor it does not dislike bittorrent and such.
Everyone who runs a router can not only access I2P sites/services, but also participates in routing the traffic of other users, and with a stable and relatively fast internet connection you can help to improve connection speeds of the network for everyone.

  • But my point is that in most cases it’s irrelevant and it isn’t something everyone has to start doing.

I did not yet see this happening IRL, but I can see that just exclaiming it is not appropriate. Though maybe they honestly just don’t know what better way is there to introduce themselves, and to be clear, I don’t know either.

When I go outside and look around me, 99% of the people don’t need to tell me what their pronouns are, because

Because you won’t have to do anything with them. They don’t tell their name either, because why would they do that, when just passing by on the street?
However at introductions there is a place for the pronouns, however weird it sounds today. I mean, introduction is about letting others know you and your things that you find relatively important.

but in reality most people don’t want to tell you their pronouns,

Never said anyone would have to. I would never do that either, because is it obvious. Same for most people, because it is obvious. This is an optional thing, even for non-binary people: only those have to tell it who want to do so.
