  • Most of her hardcore fans are remarkably dumb. Even the ones who have finally seen the light, quoted in this article.

“I don’t expect celebrities to be political or foreign policy experts, but the past few months have felt like her only concern is selling us a plethora of vinyl variants.”

The past few months?!! She’s been hawking vinyl variants for years. The album before this one dominated the charts for months because they released so many variants.

“I’m a fan ― I even flew to Scotland for the Eras Tour ― but Taylor has felt out-of-touch lately.”

Oh yeah. Just lately. Keep using that brain of yours. You’ll get there.

  • I agree with what NuXCOM said, but to add a little more detail in this situation…

For me, it’s a little different because of perceived influence.

DHH has always been the software equivalent of an Instagram influencer. He’s been selling himself as the mythical 10x programmer and wrote a corny business book with his co-founder.

Meanwhile, he was mainly working on Basecamp and racing million-dollar cars. A lot of his personal cars have been sold to YouTube influencers.

He has had a cult of personality built around him for years, and stupid people in some small software circles love him (clearly, by the rubygems takeover).

The Lemmy devs have no influence at all over software development. Just Lemmy.

  • As a former long-time Ruby developer who also used Rails (Ruby since 2006, Rails came along for me later), I’ve always known DHH was a total douchebag.

It’s nice to know he’s being super obvious about it now. He’s always been awful. He’s just been slightly quieter about it, other than buying million-dollar cars and pretending he’s still relevant.

Edit to add that here’s a presentation talking about “The DHH problem” in 2014. The updates are darkly humorous.

  • I always try to build things that I might want!

I am fortunate to have a lot of other hobbies, so I build little things for myself for those hobbies.

One of my first scripts I ever wrote around 2004 was a Perl script to get what song was playing and automatically update my IM “status”.

I also made databases of comics and CDs for myself too.

The easiest way to get better is by doing, and doing is way easier when it’s something I care about.

  • In a nutshell, it’s swastika tattoos.

This politician followed an account with a fetishized racial name (“obedient slur”) that that posted, among other things, shirtless men with swastika tattoos and comments about white power.

The politician re-posted a shirtless man in his underwear without any swastikas from that account.

Essentially, to me it looks like the openly gay politician was looking at fetish content and re-posting non-fetish content a long time ago and should have used a different username.

I haven’t looked, but I’m sure all the rest of what you mentioned exists, though. Plus all of them being furries.

  • Yep, whatever template I use looks really nice. Very professional.

It’s actually the most editable format my resume has ever been in, too! I started using LaTeX over a decade ago. I just update it when I need to and it prints out exactly the same way to PDF.

I will proselytize something like this for a resume any time. I am very curious about typst as well!
