My first Linux PC was a steam deck. The next year I got a laptop for school and thought I might as well install Ubuntu to learn a thing or two. The next year I broke my Ubuntu install and decided to graduate to Arch just because I had the opportunity. That year was 2024 and after November 5th I decided that technofascists and proprietary software could fuck right off because that was one thing about life that I could control at that point. I stopped using windows entirely a few months later.

  • You think these idiots are going to turn into some kind of international fascist union? Most of them ran on the platform of “fuck literally everyone else, we hate those guys”

Everyone already hates the USA after 9 months of fascist leadership. The USA and EU are in an active proxy war with Russia and China is helping on the Russian side. Israel is burning through all of the support they have acquired over the last decades. Brexit was almost a decade ago now.

We’re spending so much time fearing fascists we’re forgetting why we actually fear them: they’re adversarial, they suck ass at governing, and they fuck up constantly. Relations have never been worse between these countries since this right wing tide, and though there’s a lot of financial support for these parties, their international political unity extends as far as before they have a small disagreement.

  • Endhittification is often the result of an established centralized platform that got that way via giving unfairly good deals because they had a lot of investment becoming suddenly greedy and controlling to make that money back. Matrix, meanwhile, is just a protocol. It quite literally cannot be enshittified unless the protocol is updated to do something a certain way that benefits the developers over the users, because a user can simply switch providers. Even though the org that develops it is also a provider and I hear they’re going freemium, that is a service that costs money to render. I’m not surprised they need more money to offer hosting and maintain the software behind it. Unless the protocol is being modified in a way that hinders or scams us or steals our data, saying matrix is enshittifying is like saying email or HTTP is enshittifying.
