That is precisely the reason for the existential dread this has brought to my life as I ponder what kind of world will be left to my kids when I die.

I can’t even rest assured that people in power after Trump will not be Trumpists, and even if I could be assured of that, I’m not at all sure we’re going to get all this shit fixed before whatever the next catastrophe is.

I expect to die of old age in a world where we have not yet returned to at least as good as where things were when Trump took over. (and there was already a lot of fucked up shit then.)

And as someone who has spent nearly six decades rooting for humanity in most ways, I’m pretty fucking disappointed that we dropped the ball this hard on this one.

I recently started using Qobuz also. I was impressed that there are Linux apps, including a (3rd party) downloader that lets me download FLAC. (Otherwise I think you need to use their app in Windows or Mac to download FLAC - the web downloader only let me grab MP3.)

However, although I have loved it, my use case is different than yours, so not really apples to apples. I have a media server running in a VPS, so ethical downloads are my primary requirement. For Download --> Self-host --> Self-stream they are a perfect fit, IMO, though I’m sure there are others.

I like it because I’m not buying music from Amazon, or Spotify, and that it’s DRM free, primarily. I will also buy from Bandcamp sometimes. (To be fair, some amazon music can also be downloaded DRM free, but I think anyone reading this probably already knows that. I can’t remember if FLACs were available to me never or rarely, because I didn’t use Amazon music much.)

Despite that, I’m watching this thread with interest, because I’m certainly open to other options.

I haven’t met a regretful Trump voter yet. Go beneath the surface of one of those articles about how Trump’s base is deserting him and see if you can find one where it’s more than a single digit number of disgruntled X users.

Those articles may be put forth in good faith, but from what I can tell the authors typically suffer from the same thing the rest of us do - we keep thinking there is something awful enough that Trump supporters will turn on him. Despite everything that transpired from 2016 through 2024, we all keep being foolish enough to think there is anything bad enough for Republicans to put country, or even basic humanity, ahead of Trump.

I think maybe it’s too late. I also think if it’s not too late (checks outside) doesn’t look like it’s coming any time soon. We’ve all got jobs to go to and kids to feed and healthcare bills to pay for. 2020 was as big as it was for as long as it was because so many people couldn’t go to work anyway. Trumpistan won’t look like that again until things get much, much worse.

Over here in Trumpistan I have to tell you that while of course I want US businesses to succeed in the abstract, I am very happy for Trump’s trade and foreign policies to be having the effect they very logically should be having (OP) instead of what Trump has claimed.

The thing that may be his undoing is he does all the other shit wrong and also wants to kill all the undesirables. If he was really good at making everything else in the country smooth and awesome and was still trying to kill the undesirables it would snuff out the last bit of hope I have that this will end without 1861 2.0. I think if he was competent in other areas we have learned that a very scary percentage of people are willing to go “go ahead and kill them all as long as you promise me comfort.”

I like to imagine we are witnessing malicious compliance from the model.
