I just manually search tenor.com or whatever gif site and send a link or download and send as an attachment. Annoying extra step but I’m using futo due to privacy/degoogle, so I don’t mind the extra work.

Android users are screwedEnglish92·24 days agoWhy do you make baseless claims like that? They refunded everyone when they didn’t meet their funding goals, and also committed to creating a special edition phone in the next campaign for everyone who supported. You can see the campaign here on indiegogo
Edit: Librem and Purism the controversial ones, not Liberux

The crowdfunding campaign failed this summer but the project is still moving forward, just waiting to hear more from them @Liberux
Also GrapheneOS but not sure how far along any of this is: “We plan to partner with OEMs to have devices produced meeting all our requirements, providing additional privacy/security features beyond them and ideally shipping with GrapheneOS rather than massively lowering our standards.”
Edit: here’s a recent post from GrapheneOS from August 2025:

Shifty Eyes@leminal.spaceto Technology@lemmy.world•Proton Mail Suspended Journalist Accounts at Request of Cybersecurity AgencyEnglish6·1 month agoAgreed on the stupidity. He should have had PR running his accounts or at least approving his posts. But now that the cat is out of the bag I’m really conflicted about being a Proton Visionary subscriber, and try to use other services like Filen, Cryptpad, Bitwarden, Aegis, etc, so I’m not all concentrated on Proton like I was on Google Suite.
I just made a Tuta mail account for if I do decide to move away from Proton.
Shifty Eyes@leminal.spaceto Technology@lemmy.world•Proton Mail Suspended Journalist Accounts at Request of Cybersecurity AgencyEnglish7·1 month agoI have similar conflicted feelings after being a long time Visionary Subscriber.
Shifty Eyes@leminal.spaceto Technology@lemmy.world•Proton Mail Suspended Journalist Accounts at Request of Cybersecurity AgencyEnglish4814·1 month agoThere’s a lot more nuance to it than just ‘Proton CEO supports Trump (and therefore all of Trump’s policies)’
From the comments: “Andy’s statement was to recognise the choice of the Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust division at DOJ. This is someone who has history of going after tech monopolies and allowing room for the little guys (startups) to have a fair chance to grow and innovate. This was not a political endorsement.”
And at the very least the CEO controversy reveals all the issues with America’s two party Sith or Jedi system, there’s no room for nuance or discussion, just rage. Look at all the other top comments here.

For all your gaming needs, there’s a Steam app you can download from whatever app store or flathub, or download/install directly.
I went from Windows to Mint Cinnamon, to PopOS, to PopOS Cosmic Alpha for the last year on both my laptop and desktop. PopOS and PopOS Cosmic Alpha have been great, minimal issues for me on Cosmic with gaming but there were a few hiccups or delays with newly launched games, more so an issue with Nvidia drivers than the OS. For example I had to wait a month or two after Starfield launched because there were bugs with the Nvidia drivers.
Protondb is a great resource both for checking if a game runs well on Linux, and also checking troubleshooting steps if you do run into an issue, there might be some advice on what worked for other people to get a specific game running.
Also avoid Razer or Corsair gaming mice or do your research on the specific model before buying unless you want headaches with not being able to edit the RGB settings. Best if you still have access to a windows machine if you want to own anything Corsair (or are fine with not being able to edit RGB settings). I have a Logitech G502X without RGB because of all the headaches I was having with my last few Razer and Corsair mice.
Edit: OpenRGB is another resource if you have an RGB device and need to change some settings, there’s a list of supported devices on the website.

Average US parking space according to wikipedia is 8.5 to 9 ft wide. The Escalade IQL is 85 inches (7.1ft) wide with mirrors folded. That gives you 1.5 to 2 feet of space total (not on each side), so you’d probably have to trap your passengers just for the driver’s side to get out in many situations like strip malls, movie theaters, hotels, parking garages that were designed for normal sized vehicles. (For comparison a Toyota Corolla is 5.8ft wide would have about 3 feet of space). Expect a lot of dinged doors and door dinging.

"with regards to products: if you want to only buy shoes, razors, cars, caulking materials, etc, made by companies & people who support all of your political beliefs, you’re going to lose that game very fast. you will waste your life doing the following:
- researching every item you buy to death
- making these items yourself once you realize it’s impossible to find each item you want made by someone who mirrors your ideology
- give up & live in a cave
The moment you go down that road of throwing away software products and services because they are made by people whose political beliefs do not reflect yours, you are going to end up living in a cave. That is a lonely world. It doesn’t even work!! People who bought the Tesla Model 3 a few years ago would have Ford F-250 Turbo Diesel drivers speed up in front of them and roll coal in their face. And now that same person is getting called a Nazi!!!
the political beliefs of the software i use are irrelevant to me. They only become relevant when these questions arise:
- does it stop me from using the software the way i want?
- do their political beliefs keep them from being able to make a functioning product?
for gnome, #2 is yes. gnome was bad 10 years ago,it was bad 5 years ago, and it’s bad now. i used gnome for a very short time period earlier in 2024 out of morbid curiosity. my machine had 128 gigabytes of ram, rtx-2080, threadripper 2950x processor and gnome still lagged. XFCE just worked! on top of that, gnome sucked to use. i am not using gnome: whether it’s “woke” or “anti woke” or whatever else.
if we’re at a point in the world where we choose our web browser by the political views of its programmers… we’re screwed"
Shifty Eyes@leminal.spaceto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•This led to a very confusing discussion in the replies about the varying fares and systems of public transit in the Oakland-San Francisco areaEnglish3·5 months agoNot required. SF does have an ordinance to cover some costs depending on the number of employees. But its not some nationwide law.
If you’re a fancy tech bro in SF all your costs are covered, health/dental/vision/life insurance, commuting stipend or govt subsidized account you get to put pre-tax money in and the company might match, matching contributions for your retirement 401K. The techbro class doesn’t care about the cost of BART, many of them take an UBER for 3-4x the BART faire and not bat and eye at the bill (or use the company UBER account for free). If you’re just some random minimum wage worker, you’d be lucky to live within an hour or two commute of SF and afford housing.
