I really wish they’d support a MAC system out of the box. Even with basic apparmor policies. Still an awesome distro though.

Linux@programming.dev•What problems does Linux have to overcome to get more users
2·3 months agoYou should NOT disable SELinux. Where in the hell did you get the idea it’s a good idea for people to do? Quite the opposite, people should have ways to interact with the MAC system easily.

7·3 months agoTrue secure and verified boot, robust MAC systems with easy control (similar to what MacOS uses).

Linux@programming.dev•Fedora Must (Carefully) Embrace Flathub
121·3 months agoI think you miss the entire point of open source. It’s not that one is good or bad, it’s that one can be verified. Developers are welcome to publish their software however they want, but misrepresenting packages is disingenuous

Linux@programming.dev•Fedora Must (Carefully) Embrace Flathub
111·3 months agoBecause it’s fundamentally different. Open source not following the source is a clear indicator it’s no longer following its published base.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how many people came to this platform due to leaving / being banned from Reddit?
2·3 months agoI think it’s a cat and mouse game, where they don’t approve or want them there but nothing they can really do.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how many people came to this platform due to leaving / being banned from Reddit?
2·3 months agoOne of the main reasons I left Reddit was because I suspect we’re very close to that exact scenario. I can’t prove it, but many interactions just seem suspicious.
iOS is not architected like this. Apps are essentially their own containers.

Linux@programming.dev•Protecting against rogue devices with Full Disk Encryption and TPM
81·3 months agoLinux still needs some work in this space, we need full verified boot and ways to protect the boot partition against evil maid attacks. This is one major reason I haven’t been able to fully switch to Linux.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how many people came to this platform due to leaving / being banned from Reddit?
1·3 months agoMaking a conscious decision to leave social media that’s controlled by big companies that only exist to milk people for money. I’m tired of things being great until they’re not. Reddit is a cash cow for user data and it’s so full of bots and disinformation campaigns now.
I immediately noticed people are nicer here. I think a lot of it is that these are real people and not bots who are programmed to be argumentative.
It’s important to be on the same page regarding kids. I’m a bit older now but I’ve seen many relationships fall apart due to this. The other person usually WONT change so if that’s a line in the sand better not even go there.

Linux@programming.dev•Linux Breaks 5% Desktop Share in U.S., Signaling Open-Source Surge Against Windows and macOS
21·3 months agoThis is really market share against Microsoft, not Mac. For good reason too, Microsoft is working very hard to ruin their company. They’re losing a lot of ground to Mac as well, especially in the small business sector where many things are web based now anyways. Run an MSP and we’ve had quite a few clients get fed up with inconsistent updates and repeated dumb problems… looking at you WSD and printing.
It hugely improves privacy and security
This is actually a very legitimate worry
