I think it’s just because Steam is already a recognized and trusted brand. There’s many distros available but your average gamer will probably lean towards SteamOS even if it is not the best one.

I personally run all my games in Bottles (flatpak) with sandboxing on. Even if a game is available for Linux I still run the Windows version inside Bottles just so it’s slightly safer.

You only live once, so you should try to make your only life as good as you can.

And living with health problems - even if that meant you would have a shorter life - can suck much more than if you just lived without them.
