I’ve noticed that this is the case in pretty much all store bought tomatoes in the last few years, even the ugly, expensive heirloom ones. I wonder if they’re all just hydroponically grown, but I know there are a lot of factors to these and I’m probably eating a tomato that was harvested over a year ago.

Tomato sauce doesn’t need fresh tomatoes. You can probably make decent enough sauce out of like 20+ year old dehydrated tomatoes and a bunch of salt, spices, sugar and a touch of MSG.

It usually means that they put more dollars towards advertising than the quality of their products and you’ve likely heard of them through advertising than a good word of mouth.

If they have money to throw towards every other YouTuber and podcaster, then they’re probably only prioritizing growth over maintaining and improving their quality and operations. That’s just how it is.

Especially considering YouTube has no production costs. It’s all user-generated content.

YT may not have “production costs”, but they certainly not only have huge costs for hosting video, but they also have to pay for staff to develop and support their software, support content creators and sell ads that make their whole business model make sense. YouTube just isn’t a company that has little to no expenses and larger content creators will tell you just as much. And again, video hosting is fucking expensive at any scale and their scale is actually insane.

I’m not defending YT Premium, I just unsubbed after they increased the price because it’s not really worth it to me at the moment, but the fact that it’s not as expensive as HBO, which by the way will undoubtedly will increase in price like everything has in part because endless VC money is drying up, is not the only factor determining how much a service costs to a consumer. I think we might have to start looking at these things a little more objectively and start weighing how much these services actually cost to run now that maybe businesses can’t just operate in the red forever while shiny teethed confident people convince others that they can and then you.

For a lot of people that will probably come with a realization that you’re not actually willing to pay for some of these things at all.

I’ve looked into those and I don’t think they do much if your entire house burns down, so I’m either able to grab the documents or they’re burning down with the house. I may be wrong, but I think a false peace of mind is probably all they do. I’m probably not running into the fire to grab some documents, so the few extra minutes that fire resistant case would provide doesn’t do much.

Documents like SSN cards, passports, birth certificates, titles, etc can be a huge pain in the ass to replace.

If you don’t already, consider getting a box or folder ready to go in an accessible place to grab in case you have to evacuate.

The big fat folder with all the important documents I keep in a place that I can get to easily in case there’s a fire.

I can get new cats, a new PC, etc. It would be tricky to get a new birth certificate from a country that no longer exists. I can easily get new ID and get all my stuff in my wallet with the stuff in the big fat folder.
